Only 75 minutes on the bullet train from Tokyo Station is Gala Yuzawa ski resort. This is the only ski resort located next to a bullet train station in Japan and by far the easiest to access in all of Japan for foreign visitors.
This is the ultimate skiing day trip from Tokyo. We couldn’t believe one could wake up in Tokyo and be on the slopes by 8am, as we did on a recent trip to Japan. The snow was of a great quality and perfect for a day trip for beginners. Seasoned skiers may get a little bored after one day due to the resorts size.
If you stay near this resort, you can hang out in a real Japanese town rather than at a resort where you might not experience any Japanese culture. There are 20 other resorts in the Yuzawa area so staying near the bullet train station would be a great base to check out the many surrounding ski resorts.
As we travelled to Gala Yuzawa on Tokyo Rail pass, and due to this we received substantial savings on our days skiing.
Only 3,100 yen for 1 days ski lift tickets including discounts on rentals and lessons. For only 1,300 yen, non-skiers can go sledding and check out the mountain environment.
You can’t beat the value!
Ski season typically runs from December to April. Not Normal Living were there on the 18th March and it was perfect spring skiing with lovely blue skies and plenty of snow.
