First Impressions
Best Western Hotel Galles is a well located and very recently refurbished, 19th century palace that sits on the corner of Corso Buenos Aires, one of the main shopping and dining precincts in Milan. Best Western Hotel Galles has all the features you would expect from a 4 star hotel, accommodating staff and an extravagant and delicious included daily buffet breakfast with views overlooking Milan.
Check In
Our flight into Milan’s Malpensa airport arrived very early in the morning, with about an hour long transfer into Milan we arrived to the hotel around 8.00am. The staff offered to store our luggage while our room was made up. The lobby area was comfortable with many lounges scattered around, clean bathrooms and free WIFI connection to use while we waited. Within the hour our room was available for us to check into and have a much needed shower and quick nap.
The Room
We stayed in a ‘Standard Double’ room and while it was nothing fancy it ticked all the boxes for being very clean, quiet, having a good amount of floor space with a very a comfortable bed and pillows. Large windows opened up over the street to take in local life and the vibrant cafe culture below. The room featured complimentary tea and coffee making facilities, a mini bar, LCD TV, in room safe and a decent sized closet. The bathroom was large, clean and accommodated two adults with ease. The shower water pressure was great! In room WIFI was free and had a consistent, strong signal.
Facilities
The hotel bar and lounge is located to the back of the lobby area and is well stocked. If you need to leave or check out prior to breakfast service there is a complimentary Coffee Point service available in the lobby from 4am to 9am with a selection of hot beverages and snacks that are perfect for an early and light breakfast. Be sure to check out the beautiful indoor pool that is complimentary and open daily from 7am to 10pm. Want to relax after a long day of shopping? This hotel has you covered with complimentary access to the Spa area where you can enjoy a sauna, a Turkish Bath, massage chairs while sipping herbal tea and, if after all of the swimming and relaxing you need to hit the treadmill to work of dessert, the complimentary fitness centre is open 24/7.
Dining
While we didn’t use the hotel restaurant due to so many great options right on your door step, the included daily buffet breakfast was the best we have had in Europe. A vast array of tasty hot food (that was replenished quickly) of scrambled eggs and bacon, rice and beans, sausages and roasted vegetables add to that pastries, cereals, toasts, muffins,cold meats, cheeses, spreads (including a 5kg jar of Nutella) and sweets made for an overwhelming breakfast experience. The self serve coffee and tea machines are easy to use and produce great hot drinks. Hot chocolate and fresh juices are also available. Gluten and Dairy free options are available and are well signed.
Final Verdict
Best Western Hotel Galles ticks all the boxes for value, comfort, cleanliness and facilities. The staff are friendly and helpful without being in your face and the hotel’s proximity to local landmarks, transport, shopping and dining can’t be beaten.
Hot Tip
Use the Lima underground right outside the hotel to quickly and easily get to the Duomo and Galleria Vittorio Emanuele – 4 stops and a 10 minute ride.
Just prior to sunrise or sunset wander up to the rooftop terrace for magic 360 degree Milano city views.
