Ayers Rock Campground, Northern Territory Australia – Hotel Review

Location

Yulara Drive, Ayers Rock Resort,
Yulara, Northern Territory 0872, Australia

The Room

Not Normal Living stayed in an on-site air conditioned cabin that had 2 bedrooms, linen, bath towels, cooking facilities and utensils, microwave, refrigerator, television, and dining table and chairs. Bedding configuration is 1 double bed in one bedroom, and 2 sets of single bunk beds in the second bedroom. The cabins sleep a maximum of 6 people.

There are no bathroom facilities in this cabin, there are shared facilities about 100m from the cabin itself. Not ideal on chilly nights or mornings but the cabin was clean and had ample blankets for use. Car parking is located outside the cabin along with an undercover area with outdoor chairs and a table.

Facilities

We visited during peak season and while the shared bathroom blocks were basic and it was always easy to find a spare shower or toilet when needed.
The Campground has a swimming pool (was under maintenance when we visited), a kids playground, BBQ’s and self-service laundry rooms. The grounds are also pet friendly.
Reception staff were efficient and friendly. We were able to arrange a late check out until 12pm (normally 10am) by having a quick chat to staff on the morning of departure.
The grounds are spread out and it was fairly quiet at night.

Dining

Ayers Rock Resort Dining – There are a range of dining options within the Resort from takeaway to fine dining.
Gecko’s Cafe – Great casual family dining with bar. A well priced, good sized and tasty menu featuring pizzas, pasta, burgers, steak and chicken dishes. Kid’s meals available. Open for lunch and dinner and take away available. The pizzas and Angus beef burger are recommended.
Kulata Academy Cafe – Open for breakfast, lunch and take away, this little cafe is  training site for Indigenous employees for the Resort and offers a selection of breakfast options, tea, coffee, sandwiches, pies, cakes and muffins. The Pepper Steak pie is delicious!

Final Verdict

The camp grounds and cabins are a great option for the budget traveller. Cabins were $178 per night which was during peak period and the pricing reflected this. Not too bad when you consider a room at one of the neighboring resorts and lodges was between $330-570 per night.
