Ca’Doge, Venice – Hotel Review

Ca’Doge Location

Piazzale Roma
Santa Croce 467/e

Venice, Italy

The Room

Not Normal Living stayed 1 night in a Junior Suite on the 2nd floor booked through Venere.com, which was the best deal for our August arrival. Venice on the whole is very expensive and even more so during peak seasons including July-September.
The room has a King bed and fold out double sofa bed that fit 4 adults comfortably, great for travelling on the cheap and for an overnight stay but if you want privacy, book 2 rooms.  The bathroom was clean and had a shower over the bath. Ample Ca’Doge branded toiletries were provided for the short stay. Windows in the room were large and opened over the Piazzale Roma which was great for early evening people watching. Tea and Coffee making facilities, a small refrigerator plus a good size writing desk round off the room.

Facilities

Ca’ Doge is an older building, as they all are in Venice, with two floors. If accessibility is an issue you will need to look at the attached Bed and Breakfast Cassanova rooms as Ca’Doge’s main building does not have a lift/elevator so we needed to drag our suitcases up a few short flights of stairs all up. The staff are happy to help if needed.
Breakfast was included in the room rate and was great. A small buffet style self serve food comprising of cereals, toast – plain and fruit, cold meats, cheeses, biscuits, pastries, tea, coffee, juice and many different preserves and spreads.
Wifi is free, just ask for the password. If you are driving to the hotel, Ca’Doge has its own parking garage and offers discounted rates for guests. In fact, it is the only hotel in Venice with private, secure parking.  The hotel will also securely hold your luggage prior to check in and after checkout if required so you can still explore Venice.

Hot Tip

This is the best hotel to stay at if you are taking a cruise from or back into Venice. The hotel is located on the main road into Venice and is right next door to the “People Mover” which is the monorail type train that takes you to the cruise ship harbour for 1 euro per person. Plus, unlike all of the other hotels in Venice where you need to either drag your luggage over all the bridges yourself, pay for a private boat or pay a porter to drag luggage there are no bridges between the main entrance to the Island and Ca’Doge, only the stairs to get up to your room.

Final Verdict

The Not Normal Living team were very happy with Ca’Doge hotel and its staff. It checked all the boxes for an overnight stay prior to boarding the cruise ship and was good value, the room was clean, well appointed and the included breakfast was great. If we weren’t cruising from Venice and were staying longer we would opt to stay further in the heart of Venice to be closer to shops and entertainment but this is a solid accommodation option none the less.
